Smith is the founder of TeamFirstandGoal which is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping youth grow academically and socially, and to help them find their moral compass. His personal life story is one of grit and determination in his elementary school years growing up in the inner city. As an elementary student, he was bullied and intimidated, but his teachers and a handful of other adults supported and guided him in developing the moral fiber and confidence needed to overcome obstacles along a rocky path into the NFL.

“Life was not easy for me as a young person but those very difficulties shaped me into the strong and confident person I needed to be to make it into the NFL,” said Smith. “My mission in life now is to give other young people the same kind of encouragement to find their inner strength.”
