Verify My Writing Launches Human-Written Hallmark for Books

WASHINGTON, D.C. – October 15, 2025 – Verify My Writing (VMW), the platform on which writers can have their written work scanned and certified as authentic and human – and not AI – has started certifying and branding existing, already published books as “human-written,” providing publishers, authors, and readers with an important market-making hallmark indicating the history and accuracy of written work.
VMW certifies human-created written work for authors, giving them the ability to stand out from mass-produced, low-quality, AI-created content. A VMW Certification also allows editors, publishers, agents, producers, and others to verify the quality and provenance of work they may buy, publish, or amplify. By verifying the origin of written work, publishers and others can reduce their legal and reputation risks and streamline their submission processes.
Different from the existing VMW Certification, which aids in workflow and content creation, the new VMW service is a market and marketing signal for authors and publishers of already available works – informing potential readers that the book or article is, in fact, written by a human.
“Our new, human-written hallmark is a strong signal to readers that what they’re considering is real, from a human, with authentic voice and human experience, and that someone is actually responsible for it,” said Derek Newton, founder of VMW. Newton is a writer/journalist and an expert in workplace, credential, and academic fraud, which he has covered since writing about it in The Atlantic in 2015.
The VMW Certified Human Hallmark is already on several publicly available books, and publishers have placed orders to put the VMW Hallmark on more than 100 other titles. VMW expects that books with the new human-written designation will surpass 1,000 by Spring, 2026. Inside the VMW Hallmark is a unique QR code, allowing easy verification of the certification, along with title, author name, and date and time certified.
“The market needs this,” Newton said. “Readers deserve to know where books and news come from, and authors who actually do their own work need a way to get attention – a ‘hand-made’ sign for writing,” he said.
